Simulation Theory
“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.” - Edgar Allen Poe
Simulation Theory is a series of screen-printed and archival pigment images examining what it means to be human. Our emotions, conflicts, aspirations and limitations are all things that make us similar yet extremely different from each other. It may be easy to relate to another’s suffering, but only through the lens of our own experiences. All too often this lens distorts our perception making it difficult to feel compassion. But, what is the purpose of the human condition, if not to have empathy for one another?
